Apple I found on a branch in my yard....swarmed by ants. Kind of odd for it to be sitting so high, with chew marks...

Semper Fi my friends
Originally uploaded by Ben Northern.

I met a good group of young while on my biz trip to D.C.. Whatever politics you believe in doesn't change that these guys believe in our country and are doing what they feel is right. It's to easy these days for us to just see it as TV characters on the 6:00 news. These are real men. So I bought them a few rounds, and had a few smokes, and they got to talk to just one guy out of millions that appreciate their sacrifice.

Until you can stand up and are willing to take a bullet for something you believe in, then you better just walk on home boy.

Stay safe fellas.

I've decided to host my site on Apple's dot mac servers. Lets see how many things break in the process! Bear with me kids.

ANYWAY...

I did a few experimental images of Hannah Arendt. I haven't ever done this style before - I've always liked the graphic, high contrast look, but just never dabbled in it myself. While technically, it's a simple procedure to mimic, I think the story is in the details. Not being content with just running a couple of photo shop filters (Pencil Sketch and Stamp) I went in with my handy dandy pen and made some detail scribbles. It's always a tough judgment call to know when to pull back, and stop adding detail. This of course, is the dilemma all artists face. Luckily I have Ctrl+Z.

I did these as a Proof Of Concept to myself, and a fellow I work with, Tom Stone ( personal site | blog )- who runs a really cool Philosophy site(s). He's a smart guy, so, I need to make sure I spell everything correctly in this post. He's the founder of EpistemeLinks. And is looking to expand the site's product line with some updated and unique work. So I thought I'd whip something up in a style he suggested.

Hannah is one if the philosophers that I picked as my test subject. I also feel that if you can do a woman (stop the childish giggling) and not make her look like a man, then, the process is a success. Why did I do 3 versions? Well - to be honest, I wasn't sure which image or age range she is most endeared at. Plus, I liked all three pictures that came up most often in my google search. I may experiment with a bit of color, and see if I can sneak into the Pop Art movement.

Hope this works!

I know there hasn't been an update here for a real long time. But Seven and the hang have been busy. I've been sending show pitches around and getting lovely rejections and such from a few places. That's a lie. Just one place shot me down. And it defeated me to the point that I just lost a lot of steam.

However I do have plenty of comics in the works, and I'm writing out a few animated episodes that I'll most likely have to self produce.

So, new comics are on the way, and maybe within the year some more animation. So, keep holding your collective breaths, something is coming....

1). The bartenders seemed really young, and unnaturally thin and well kept.
2). Stage show posters peppered around the bar.
3). A neon Bud-Light sign. (not normally too gay on it's own, but the rainbow backdrop really gave it away.)
4). Some dudes were like...hugging.
5). "Why didn't we notice that poster above the door when we came in?"

Some of you may be noticing the new JOCS site. I usually don't put beta versions of my site live, but to be honest I got sick of looking at the old site. It's mostly there, except for the fancy flash animation for the three main 'divisions'; Character, Charisma and Perception. I also have a few streaming issues to deal with (pre-loaders and what not...).
