So the wife and I along with a few friends got out to the Sunset Drive-In and saw Batman Begins, and Mr & Mrs Smith. Both films were really good. Batman was suprisingly well done. I think it was better than the Tim Burton Batman (and sequels) from a bunch of years back. Mr & Mrs Smith was a fun film, and I could really apprieciate the on screen chemistry between Brad and Angelina.

Anyway, I went to the pisser after Batman, and was entertained with some urinal markings. I thought I'd share.

I've always had a facination with graffiti, especially bad jokes, random poetry and spasms of deep observations. This past weekend we were invited to a neighbor's son's first birthday party. We got the lad a book and one of the rare children's prints I have. It was a nice get together in Holley's canal side park area. In the pavilion I discovered some wonderful markings.

I love watching other peoples' kids do funny things. And I don't mean a cute smile, or funny burp - but more like when they take a header, or smack into glass windows - shit like that. Or in this case, suck on a Webbles marker. This cute child is one of the offsprings of Mark and Lisa, friends of ours from Albion. They really are good parents, I just have a messed up sense of amusement.

Mike (Vanessa's husband) shows up today with a new slick toy - an Anakin Skywalker light saber (and for those keeping score, it also become Luke's light saber in Episode IV, until he gets it whacked off - with his hand - in Episode V, by none other than Darth Vader, who was originally Anakin*) from Master Replicas. Within minutes he was face to face with Dan Curto's** (resident Star Wars super guru) Dart Vader light saber. I happened to snap this lil diddy while the two were mocking a half-assed scuffle. This photo (like ALL the camera phone images) was not altered - those LED blades are bright! In case anyone is thinking of getting one of these for about $100-$120 (YMMV) - DO IT!. They are awsome. They light up, they make the sound effects, they have motion sensors for all the swishing sounds. Plus they also make the crackling sounds when they hit something. The blade is a pretty sturdy plexiglass (?I think?). And they're durable! You can whack someone, or something. DO IT! In the background you can see McCoy wishing he had something bright and red he could swing around.

Any way, I'm jealous. I want one. I want the Mace Windu one though - it's all like gold and purple an' shit.

* Please excuse the geek attack
** Dan's cube is also the inspiration behind our (Greg and I) undeveloped short film screenplay, "After Hours". You can see pics of a small part of his Star Wars cube decorations here. I'm jealous.

The next portrait in my new series is underway. I thought I'd share the sketches thus far for Joy's portrait.

The coveted 1st ever "Rocker of the Night" award goes to:

The fellows and I (Jamie and Chris) continued our long tradition of rocking out. Tonight's venture was to see Queensryche primarily, and it just so happened that Judas Priest was headlining the show. The show was at Darien Lake's satisfactory amphitheater.

Queensryche started promptly at 7:30 pm and opened with..something. I have to admit I'm not to familiar with a lot of their music. Don't get me wrong, I like it - I'm just not too familiar with their catalog. I did however know a few songs, "Queen of the Ryche", which I believe was off their first album a hundred years ago. They sounded pretty well - and they played something from their upcoming sequel album, Operation Mindcrime 2. I don't recall the title...."something America" or "Americans..." They only played an hour - which was not enough.

Priest came on about 20 min after Queensryche. I've never seen them live, so I didn't know what to expect. They pretty much rocked. For not being a Priest fan by any means, I actually knew, or at least had some familiarity with most of the songs played. Halford hasn't lost a bit - his voice is as loud and powerful as I ever recalled. For the beginning of the 4 song encore, Halford rolled out on stage on his bike - They closed off the show with "Hell Bent For Leather", "Painkiller", "You Got Another Thing Comin" and "Living After Midnight". For not being a 'fan' I seem to have a good enough knowledge of their works...Odd. And yes, they also played "Breaking The Law" earlier in the show. They played for about 2 hours.

All in all I would have liked to have seen a bit more from Queensryche, but the show was over all pretty good.
